What artists do you listen to? What artists do you know of at WHS? Follow Web/Social Media Editor Hanna Zakharenko as she explores one of WHS’ most hidden population: songwriters.
In this episode of “WHS Voices of the Future,” Hanna interviews senior and triple-threat Gabby Estrada, who plays the piano along with other instruments, writes original songs, and sings. There is not a more exciting time to be a sports fan than the thrilling stretch of late May to early June, resulting in no shortage of topics to talk about. Fortunately, there is a new Hi’s Eye podcast called “Around the League,” where Jared Greenspan and Adam Holtzman dissect and debate all of the top stories in sports occurring across the nation.
In the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors find themselves meeting for the fourth consecutive season with a championship on the line. Beyond the finals, the NBA Draft looms two weeks away with one of the top pools of prospects ever assembled.
On the ice in the NHL, the Las Vegas Golden Knights have done the impossible and made the Stanley Cup finals in their inaugural season. Yet beyond the emergence of the Knights, the Washington Capitals, a franchise starved for postseason success, have likewise been triumphant.
On Thursday in Russia, the 2018 FIFA World Cup will commence, an invigorating tournament bound to capture the hearts of fans across the globe set to cheer on their country’s fútbol team. While Team USA will be absent from the tournament, Americans can still follow other teams competing or revert to other sports entirely; for instance, there are thousands of games left to be played across the MLB.

All eyes were on the celebrities walking the red carpet at the Golden Globes on Sunday, not simply to see what designers they were wearing or their chosen makeup for the night, but also the color of their ensemble. Stemming from the recent outbreak of sexual harassment and assault allegations in Hollywood and the “Me Too” movement, the women of Hollywood decided to step up and speak out by wearing all black to the Golden Globes. They also debuted their new platform, “Time’s Up,” which is linked to a defense fund that provides money to victims in legal battles over sexual assault, while also providing advice, support and links to different hotlines for victims of harassment and assault.
The words “Time’s Up” were spoken various times throughout the awards show, and were plastered all over Instagram later in the night. From Natalie Portman’s jab at the inequality within the movie industry to Oprah Winfrey’s dynamic, awe-inspiring speech, a new podcast on the Hi’s Eye website will recap all the highlights of the Golden Globes, and talk about the ways in which Hollywood and the world are beginning to change.
